APEX 24.2 - Small Changes, Big Help

Richard Dacre

With every new release of APEX, many major features are delivered, but it is sometimes the small ones that help.

In this post, we highlight a few changes that will make a difference to a developer day-to-day, whether it is a usability change, consistency, removal of the need for customised code or speeding up your workflow….  even if you don’t know it yet.

Browser window title

If like me, you have many many tabs open in your browser for different APEX applications and environments, you will now notice in 24.2, instead of “Page Designer” being the tab title, the application name, page number and page name are displayed

Font APEX Flags

In the past, we have used a third party plug to display a select list with a list of countries and their flags.  With 24.2 and the addition of the colour flag icons, we can do this natively.

Translated applications

One of the big issues of working on Translated applications over the recent years is remembering to republish before exporting (and putting into version control!). I must have lost countless hours debugging foreign language applications in test environments and then remembering I didn’t publish to that language before exporting!  Again, a simple but great feature within APEX 24.2 when exporting a translated application.

Native Utility Classes

Another time saving native feature introduced into APEX 24.2 is some utility classes for

Padding, Margin, Typography and Shadows. This feature will be useful for consistency in how we build applications and remove some technical debt from previously defined classes.

Whilst these may not seem like major changes, these are things that will hopefully make our life easier.

We have a couple of upcoming blog posts about some of the more major features that will replace some of our bespoke functionality we have created in the past, but this release is a credit to the APEX team - thank you!
